Contact and Contactless cards are plastic ID cards containing electronic memory and, in some cases, an embedded integrated circuit(for RFID models). They are sometimes called “smart ID cards”, “RFID cards” or “smart cards”. Parking cards,Store value cards we usually used are kind of contact & contactless cards.
Contactless Smart Cards
Contactless smart cards only require close proximity to a reader to enable the transmission or identification of data, commands or card status and take less time to authenticate than regular ‘contact’ smart cards. Both reader and card have an internal antenna allowing secure communication between the two.
Advantages of Contactless Cards
Contactless cards are embedded with an integrated circuit chip, providing not just memory capacity, but also computational capability. The self-containment of a contactless smart card makes it resistant to attack, as it does not depend upon potentially vulnerable external resources.
Contact Smart Cards
Contact smart cards have a contact area of approximately 1 square centimetre (0.16 sq in.), comprising several gold-plated contact pads. These pads provide electrical connectivity when inserted into a reader, which is used as a communications medium between the smart card and a host. The power of connectivity between card and host is supplied by the card reader.
Advantages of Contact Cards
As Contact cards offer direct connectivity between cards and host, make sure the communication of information, it is much more secure than Contactless cards. Please contact us to know more about Contact & Contactless cards.
